Life Goes On
had an MRI scan around a month back after my sports doctor suspected that i might have slipped disc and i went for the MRI review a few days back. Results weren't what i was looking forward to:
what i expected
Doc : "oh! good thing that we've made a mistake on the initial checkup, turns out that you don't have anything too serious, just a case of back strain. Physiotherapy will put you back in shape."
what actually happened
Doc: "this doesn't look too good, you actually have 2 bad cases of slipped disc and one of it is actually pressing against a nerve on your spine which is connected to your leg. Which explains about the numbness, pins and needles that you're feeling on your right leg."
so it's revealed to me that i actually have 2 cases of slipped disc near my lower back and one of it pressing against the nerve of my leg. the doctor actually suggested that i went for an operation to remove the disc that's pressing against the nerve, which in my opinion is the most relavent thing to do.
post-op though, would require me to be hospitalized for 1 week, recovery of the wounds takes around 3-4 weeks, full recovery would be around 6 months and i'll have to live with a chronic backpain for the rest of my life.
this might sound crazy but i consider my fitness now to be near the peak and to be cut off now just seems like a terrible mistake, esp when it's the second time that injury has come in my way (the first time being a heel spur on both feet). but i guess this operation is inevitable.
i was thinking since i'm going for an operation, i might as well go all out and try to get myself fixed as much as possible, although being 100% cured is impossible, it's like trying to piece back a broken vase perfectly. i don't really trust this doctor at AH though, i read about an artificial disc replacement device that can be fitted in for people with slipped disc from NUH but when i asked him if there was any other surgery that can helped me, he gave me a negative.
i guess i'll have to go to NUH for a second opinion. In the meantime, shit happens, but life still goes on =/
