Idle Banter 2

preparing for uni life is to a certain extend hectic, or well, at least for the past week.

i have to do my clearance in my camp which is a whore because someone is bound to be missing at a certain point of time and it's a bitch to put the point across to some people in camp that i'm actually on leave, so THEY SHOULDN'T BE ASKING ME TO DO ANYTHING!

then came the realisation that the planning of my timetable for this coming semester isn't as easy as i thought it would be =/ some modules just clashes with each other and it's currently giving me a headache until i manage to figure it out. it's like fucking rubix cube.

even before i can finish planning my timetable, i have to actually check in to my hall (read: hostel) tomorrow and prepare for my hall orientation. had to head out to ikea to grab some stuff after realising that they're not giving me anything apart from a table, bed frame and a matteress. i have yet to buy anything else apart from my sheets. i need a pillow!

best thing is that i haven't even packed yet and i'm still blogging over here. time to head out and vaccum my trusty duffle bag that i just retrieved from my almost inhibited bunk in camp. cobwebs have taken over the bag.

one side of my speaker is busted. bugger.

Doing Nothing Is Tiring

despite informing my manpower department last month that i'll be on leave for the whole of july, i guess it was inevitable for them to decide to make the final "squeeze" of the officers that are clearing leave for studies in july.

so here i am back in my sqn on duty, bored and nothing to do. one cannot imagine the pain that i have to endure having nothing to do in camp except for sleeping, eating and talking cock with some of my men.

and to top off all the painful waiting, i have to wake up real early tomorrow morning to open up my armoury for people who are going for range. so much for my last duty.

after tomorrow, I'LL BE FREE!! WEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Pimp My Van

well, at least the interior.

after months of procrastination, i finally decided to clean up all the clutter that's in my van while i was waiting for people to go for dinner after an ultimate practice. that's how long it only took and i have no idea how i managed to drag it for so long.

now that i've cleared up my van, time to pimp up the interior to make it nice and useful, made some mental notes on what i wanted my van to have.

  • more space, thus im dumping the mini sofa that i have for a bean bag
  • find a storage that can double off as a seat at the back of my van
  • something to hook my shoes and boots on the metal railing
  • find something to hold my umbrellas nicely
  • decorate my dashboard
  • have a tissue box (yes, i've been living without one in the van all these while)
  • put some stationary
  • audio cables for my ipod
this is the list of things that i wanna do to my van right now, i have a feeling there's gonna be more coming up as i go shopping. i hope it won't cost me too much.

IKEA! Here i come!

Bored

suddenly feeling quite bored now, so i think i'll just post some random stuff up for everyone to see. haha.

Funny hamster Pic

i don't know how clear this picture looks but i took this from a pet shop at great world city. the hamster's like all banged up against the tank while it's sleeping. looked like it was running too fast and crashed into the tank.

Johari Window

actually i've set this up some time ago, but never really bothered to ask people to do it. do it if you want to tell me how i am or how you want me to be, although i don't think i would change. hah.

Life Goes On

had an MRI scan around a month back after my sports doctor suspected that i might have slipped disc and i went for the MRI review a few days back. Results weren't what i was looking forward to:

what i expected

Doc : "oh! good thing that we've made a mistake on the initial checkup, turns out that you don't have anything too serious, just a case of back strain. Physiotherapy will put you back in shape."

what actually happened

Doc: "this doesn't look too good, you actually have 2 bad cases of slipped disc and one of it is actually pressing against a nerve on your spine which is connected to your leg. Which explains about the numbness, pins and needles that you're feeling on your right leg."

so it's revealed to me that i actually have 2 cases of slipped disc near my lower back and one of it pressing against the nerve of my leg. the doctor actually suggested that i went for an operation to remove the disc that's pressing against the nerve, which in my opinion is the most relavent thing to do.

post-op though, would require me to be hospitalized for 1 week, recovery of the wounds takes around 3-4 weeks, full recovery would be around 6 months and i'll have to live with a chronic backpain for the rest of my life.

this might sound crazy but i consider my fitness now to be near the peak and to be cut off now just seems like a terrible mistake, esp when it's the second time that injury has come in my way (the first time being a heel spur on both feet). but i guess this operation is inevitable.

i was thinking since i'm going for an operation, i might as well go all out and try to get myself fixed as much as possible, although being 100% cured is impossible, it's like trying to piece back a broken vase perfectly. i don't really trust this doctor at AH though, i read about an artificial disc replacement device that can be fitted in for people with slipped disc from NUH but when i asked him if there was any other surgery that can helped me, he gave me a negative.

i guess i'll have to go to NUH for a second opinion. In the meantime, shit happens, but life still goes on =/

A Good Conversation

had a very good conversation with my boss yesterday before i left the office at the end of the day:

*during last parade

boss: "so does anyone have anything else for me before we dismiss? Weiliang, anything?"

me: "m'am, nothing in particular"

boss: "ok, then i'll see you guys tmr"

*everyone scooters out of the office at warp speed*

boss: "Weiliang, have you finished all your outstanding things already?"

me: "yeah, more or less, some just needa wait for the contractors to reply."

boss: "good, i don't wanna see you in the office from tmr onwards anymore"

*stuns me*

boss: "and the next time you come back to the office, please don't come in uniform. you are officially on leave as of tmr until you go for your studies."

me: "YES M'AM!!"

so with this conversation, i conclude that I'M CLEARING LEAVE LO!!!! BYE BYE 165 SQN!! HAHA!

Retarded

have you ever came across a car stereo that has a SECURITY CODE??

mine does and it popped out after my van's battery lost it's charge after i left the hazard lights on after i got off the van. now it's irritating the hell out of me, long drives without tunes coming out of my trusty ipod is just too much to bear.

need to find an alternative music source for the time being while i try to get my security code from the Renault workshop.

i still think that feature is retarded. ARGH!

Orientation

it feels good to be a student once again!

just came back from my SoC orientation camp on thursday and i must say that it's really alot of fun.

all you stereotypical people, computing people ain't as boring as you think they are, haha :p

i can't remember when was the last time i attended an orientation camp, maybe like 5 years ago, back when i was a year 1 student at nyp and it really was a very renewed experience for me.

the only difference for this orientation was that everyone (well, almost everyone) was pretty much open and can go crazy without any notice. one of the more interesting things that happened during the camp was a speed dating and SP (secret pal) night.

speed dating was pretty interesting, talking to like 26 girls from the camp in approx 26 mins and trying to know them so that you can try your and put their names down in an attempt to get paired up during the SP night. thankfully, most of the girls were pretty chatty, if not i would have found the speed dating thing a torture. haha

SP night, a slip of paper, 3 names of girls from the speed dating, pray for the best.
Thankfully, my SP was one of my 3 choices and i think we really clicked since we're both "siao siao". i can't imagine what would have happened to me if i got some very shy girl to play the couple games that happened during the SP night. haha.

anyway, some photos below:
