Roll Of Honours: First Callahan Of Season!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the FIRST CALLAHAN of the season!!

Kirk from Beans(?) got the callahan when he was in the cup of a zone defence thrown by team Beans(?). Blazing down the field as the disc was being pulled, he D and caught the disc as the first pass attempted to go past him.

Kudos to Kirk for the effort!

More updates on Week 2 soon.

Scoring
A point is scored when any player catches a pass in the endzone in which they are trying to score. In older versions of the rules, only offensive players could score. UPA rules allow a defensive player to intercept a pass in the endzone they are attacking to score a Callahan goal, however WFDF rules do not count this as a point.

A Callahan is when you are on defence and intercept a pass in the other team's endzone. You have the disc...you're in the endzone...Score!

It used to be that you would have to take it back to the goal line and then throw it in for a score, but that is no longer the case for UPA rules (what we play in Singapore and what is used in the US and Canada), but is for WFDF rules (which are played in Europe and at the World Championships).

I think the reason that an interception in the endzone used to not be a score was because of the wording in earlier versions of the rules of Ultimate, where a score was when you caught a pass from a teammate. This wording didn't allow for a score if you caught a pass from an opposing player. Luckily they've changed it!
