SOTG and Stuff
As we move into a another season of league, the intensity has rised as usual. Even as the intensity rises, we shouldn't forget the basic principle of ultimate, which is the "Spirit Of The Game (SOTG)".
"What's SOTG?", you might ask, here's an explaination of SOTG:
Ultimate is known for its "Spirit of the Game", often abbreviated SOTG. The following description is from the official Ultimate rules established by the Ultimate Players Association:
"Ultimate has traditionally relied upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional fouling, or other 'win-at-all-costs' behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players."
Many tournaments give awards for the most spirited team, as voted for by all the teams taking part in the tournament. This honor, sometimes called the Spirit Award, is highly coveted.
quoting john lin from a long (x5?) time ago:
"competition poisons the soul"
This is pretty much true, but it only poisons as much as you allow it to.. Remember, winning isn't everything in this league. If it is you, you might be playing the wrong sport, haha :p
Anyway, stats will be up real soon once we are done sorting some stuff out.. please be patient with us :)
One more thing we need to highlight is the need to clean up the trash after the games. These fields are very important to us and it would really blow if we lost the fields because of public complains. So please make an effort to keep the fields and the walkway under the LRT tracks clean. Thanks!

did i say that? i luuuuuuuurrve competition.
but if i said such a thing ... then it was most definitely in the perspective that wei liang qualifies for me in the 3rd paragraph. its "league" not the "EPL"- half the players are just starting Ultimate.
i saw an pretty cool National Geographic show on Sumo with my son... and the American commentator asked a Japanese sumo why they dont gloat after winning. the huge sumo guy said, " as a sumo, we respect the other person that we challenge so much, that it would be dishonorable to rejoice in his defeat". thats a bit of SOTG.
one thing that is for sure is that playing hard and SOTG are not mutually exclusive.
